Busst lands award treble

DAVE Busst completed a hat-trick of Western Division Manager of the Month awards when he picked up the first accolade of 2004, writes Mervyn Collins.

The Evesham United manager deservedly earned the honour at the end of a month that saw the Robins win four and draw two of their six Dr Martens League January fixtures.

Busst collected two awards when in charge at Solihull Borough and he will be hoping the accolade doesn't bring a end to United's seven-match unbeaten sequence at Gresley Rovers tomorrow.

"That's usually the case," Busst acknowledged. "I was thinking of getting a friendly arranged before this weekend so that that particular avenue of disappointment could be dismissed but if we go out and show the same commitment and workrate that has brought us this far then we won't go far wrong."

Busst paid tribute to his players and assistant Paul West, who was himself delighted with the recognition.

"Dave's done a great job. We both think the same way about the game and the players have responded well," the assistant boss admitted.

"The first thing he did was to bring the players to Evesham more and that has given them an affiliation with the place. We train at the ground when we can and I think that's been one of the things that has helped us improve matters on the field."

The players were due to train at High School last night when the management duo would be making a decision on whether Linton Bailey would be fit to for tomorrow's clash.

Fellow doubt Steven Hands came through a practice match last weekend ready to return, Lee Knight and Sean Flynn will both be missing tomorrow.
