Dog and caf row is settled

A STOW town councillor has withdrawn his threat to resign after his dog was banned from going through St Edward's Caf in the Square to get to the council offices upstairs.

Coun John Kennell was told by caf owners Sue Hathaway and Jill White that he could not take his Staffordshire bull terrier Petra through the caf because he passed by the kitchen area where food is prepared.

As a result he wrote to Mayor Alan Rose questioning the suitability of the council's first floor offices, which are rented from the caf.

He said he might have to quit the council if he could not take Petra to the offices.

However, coun Kennell, who is parking committee chairman, said last week: "I certainly don't wish to criticise the caf or the ladies. They have got a business to run and I'm not there to spoil that for them."

He said that since writing the letter "in the heat of the moment" he had calmed down and withdrawn his resignation threat.

"Alan and I have discussed it and he has looked into alternative accommodation and found it would be difficult to get it at a price the council can afford," he added.

Mrs Hathaway said the matter had got out of hand.

She said the problem had been resolved and coun Kennell was no longer bringing his dog through the caf.
