Beth is pipped at post

THE final round of the Gloucestershire Cross Cou-ntry Championships took place at Droitwich on an extremely muddy course.

Bourton Road Runners fielded teams in all four of the young age groups.

The Under-11 girls race saw another brilliant run by Beth Pudifoot who was just pipped at the post for second place by a mere one second.

That fine run came just two days after she had won the area inter-schools race at the Cotswold School.

A determined run by Jess Davies gave her a good seventh place, while young Elizabeth Rutherford finished 12th to ensure a surprising team win on the day.

In the same age group for boys, Lee Knowles, who posted a brilliant second in the inter-schools, had to settle for fifth, while

Connor Teague reversed the results with a best ever second place finish.

They were both well supported by promising young Guy Keeble in 15th and even younger eight-year-olds Sam Elson (18th) and Peter Carrick (19th) as the team finished second on the day.

The Under-13 boys race produced saw excellent results for Jay Davies who looked full of running as he worked his way right through from the back of a large field to finish a strong 12th.

He was closely tracked by Tom Jess (15th), Chris Lunney (25th) and Thomas Coleman (27th) in another solid team effort.

The Under-13 girls as always produced the goods in what was a fast race.

Steph Lane never eased up and was rewarded with a pleasing fourth spot. Brittany Teague again gave her all and was there again two places adrift.

Ellie Pudifoot, back to fine form, snatched a top ten spot, while the finish of the day saw Ellie Peters just pip Danielle Elson in a long sprint finish for 12th and 13th positions.

Nina Sensior also finished fast for 15th, with the team finishing third overall.

In the senior ladies race, Ali Lane ran well to outsprint International athlete Zina Marchant to claim 12th place overall.

Other finishers: 19 Sarah Clemo; 21 Suzzanna Sjogren; 25 Kate Hall; 26 Lyn Spedding; 39 Carolyn Coleman.

The senior men's race saw Dennis Walmsley produce another solid run to finish runner-up and well clear of the third place finisher.
