Sports in a cup state as Stuart strikes

Stratford Alliance

A TRIO of first division Knockout Cup ties produced 23 goals with Ilmington Revolution leading the way with a nine-goal drubbing of Blockley Sports.

The quarter-final clash marked the last appearance for the club of Stratford Town utility man Stuart Eades who is moving to America. And, he celebrated in fine style with a goal.

Matt Petty helped himself to a hat-trick, James Shearman bagged a brace, while the other strikes came courtesy of Liam McGrath, Gavin Tilley and James Bishton.

Luke Bayliss and Gary Hawkins both hit doubles as Campden Town Reserves swamped Bidford 8-1 in the same competition, while Matt hall and ian Sweeney also found the net twice as Halfords hit five without reply against Tysoe.

Shipston Excelsior Reserves were another side to book a semi-final date, this time in the Division Two Cup, after a 4-1 defeat of Badsey Rangers Reserves. Kevin Kelly struck a hat-trick for the London Roaders.

The afternoon's leading individual goalgetter was Daniel Laight who scored four of the six goals that Needlemakers hit past Oast House in the Journal Premier Division.

Ali Eden's brace helped complete a good for Shipston as the top fight side won 4-1 at Badsey United.

Scott Sears was another treble topper but his goals failed to help Badsey United Reserves, who lost out in a seven-goal Herald Division One thriller at Claverdon for whom Tony Andrews netted twice.

Steve Titmus joined the hat-trick club in helping FISSC Reserves to an 8-0 triumph at Park Tavern.

Littleton's title hopes were dealt a blow when they were held 2-2 at Dog and Pheasant, while Rob Ellis was on target twice as Kenilworth overcame struggling Long Compton 4-1.
