From an Avenger to revengeful for Rigg

DIANA Rigg, who first found fame as Emma Peel in the classic TV series, The Avengers, is co-staring in Suddenly Last Summer at the Malvern Theatres.

The tale is a compelling portrayal of the obsessive nature of a mother's love and comes to Malvern from March 2 as part of a national tour.

Sebastian died suddenly last summer. Unable to accept the account of how her son met his untimely end, Mrs Venables, played by Diana Rigg, plans revenge on the girl she believes stole Sebastian from her.

A jungle-like garden, steaming in the sultry heat of New Orleans provides the perfect environment for her venge-ance to unfold.

Tennessee Williams is theatre's poet of impossible love and this, arguably one of his greatest plays, is given a new look by Sheffield Theatres' award-winning associated director, Michael Grandage.

Diana Rigg was last seen at Malvern Theatres in the Almeida Theatre Company's Phaedre. Her co-star in this latest play is Victoria Hamilton. She most recently appeared on the West End stage in Stephen Poliakoff's Sweet Panic and will be remembered for her numerous screen roles including Maria Bertram from Film Four's Mansfield Park.
