Concern at long-term care in new rest home

CONCERNS have been raised about the number of long-term beds in a proposed new care home for the elderly in Chipping Norton.

Mayor Jo Graves said she fears the 50 beds planned for the favoured option to replace the Castle View care home will not be enough.

Castle View, which will close in 2006-2007 when government regulations on care homes come into force, has 47 long-term care beds.

Only 20 of the beds in the proposed new development are earmarked for long-term care, with the remainder split between intermediate and private care.

A 50-bed care home combined with a community hospital is the preferred option of the Castle View stakeholder group.

Oxfordshire County Council executive is due to make a decision about putting the option out for consultation at its meeting next Tuesday.
