TRADERS in Moreton have been accused of failing to do enough to improve disabled access to their premises.
Moreton town councillor Jennie Petersen said that many of the town's small businesses had so far failed to implement changes required under the Disability Discrimination Act, which come into effect in October this year.
Coun Petersen, who uses a wheelchair, said: "It was first mooted in 1995 and I know from my own experience that it's not nearly there. People are very frightened of it and traders thought it was an imposition.
"No-one has done anything except for Cotswold District Council, the town council and the library."
Coun Petersen's comments follow a disability awareness day in the town last week, which was intended to highlight the problems for wheelchair users and other disabled people.
It is estimated that there are 8.6million disabled people in the UK with an estimated value to businesses of £5.6billion a year.
