Working towards opening road

IN last week's Journal, E Marsh of Offenham berated the authorities over the closure of the B4510 at Anchor Bank.

It seems the reason this road has been restricted or closed for two years is because the Highways Partnership have had to commission long-term geological studies.

They have also had to take account of a Site of Special Scientific Interest on one side of the road and a Special Wildlife Site (SWS) on the other.

The SWS was bought in March this year by Vale Landscape Heritage Trust, who immediately began active dialogue with the county council and put forward new ideas to get the road open quickly while protecting the wildlife and landscape features that make Anchor Bank such a special place.

The trust's suggestions have now been adopted by the authorities and I believe that the council's officers and engineers really are doing their best, in consultation with Vale Landscape Heritage Trust, to put the road right and get it re-opened as soon as possible.
