Bowlers shine bright

A FABULOUS show with the ball helped Adlestrop maintain their recent improvement in the league as Crudwell were shot out for a meagre 60 chasing 166 for victory last Saturday.

Dan Parker (2-28) and Sam Keen (2-7) quickly removed the first four wickets with only 37 runs on the board and matters got worse for the visitors with only opener Williams able to amass double figures.

Mike Hughes recorded the best figures with the ball of 3-14, while Ivor Nurden joined the openers on the two-wicket mark while conceding only eight runs in a miserly spell.

Batting hadn't been too easy earlier in the day with Adlestrop only mustering 48 off the opening 20 overs.

However, double figure scores down the card and a hard hit unbeaten 33 to cap a good afternoon for Mike Hughes helped the hosts to 165-6 at tea.

Sam Keen also enjoyed a profitable all-round afternoon with a knock of 29 while helping Hughes add 58 for the fifth wicket.

He was back in the thick of the action against Longborough 24 hours later when, on a damp wicket, he sent down seven overs, six of which were maidens to record figures of 2-2.

Colin Hicks (3-51) and Derek Hedges (1-25) were also on song as an eight-man visiting team were reduced to 112 all out with only Taylor managing to repel the home attack with a fine undefeated half-century.

Allan Walker (34) and Dan Adams reduced the target by 22 before Keen (34) again showed his all-round ability in helping Walker take the reply to 77 before five wickets fell for the addition of five runs.

Turner's three wickets left the hosts struggling on 82-6 but skipper Matt Barnes (22no) and Nick Keen steadied the boat to guide Adlestrop to a four-wicket success.
