Parsons back in action after double in Denmark

AFTER being crowned World Long Distance Duathlon Age Group champion earlier this month, Michelle Parsons is back in action on Sunday at the Half Ironman UK Race in Sherbourne.

The Vale ace added the long distance title to the shorter version won earlier this year, winning the prestigious event in fine style.

Parsons travelled to Denmark where she completed the 20.6K run, 120K bike ride and a final 10K run through Frederica city centre in a time of six hours two minutes and 51 seconds.

She crossed the line almost three minutes ahead of her closest challenger and he dual title capture is expected to earn selection for the Great Britain long distance team.

Daughter Tegan looks like following in mum's footsteps and tyre marks after claiming second place overall in the previous day's unofficial Children's Duathlon World Cham-pionship.

She was the sole non-Danish competitor in the 8-9 age category and she was disappointed not to have taken first place after officials sent all but one of the youngsters on a two-lap bike ride rather than the anticipated one.

Tegan finished first girl in the two-lap bike race but second overall behind the only competitor to complete the correct one lap of the course.

Parsons was in action last weekend at the Castle Combe Rowathon part of the 2004 British Rowathon Series sponsored by Concept Two.

The event comprised a 3,000m row on a Concept Two indoor rowing machine followed by a 21K bike section around the race track itself and finishing with 3K run around the perimeter of the circuit.

She easily won the female race in an overall time of 59 minutes and 24 seconds some six minutes clear of her nearest female rival. She was placed 14th overall out the 130 competitors who finished the race.

Fellow Worcester Tri Club member Les Bailey from Pinvin in his first attempt at the Rowathon produced a magnificent performance to place fifth in the over 50s category and 61st overall 1.05.54.

The next race in the series is on September 4 in Reading.
