Double lottery winner gives £1,000 to hospice

DOUBLE charity lottery winner Jenny Wells has made a grand gesture to the Acorns Hospice Appeal.

Jenny won £10 on the hospice's lottery, bought ten more tickets then came up with a £1,000 win, which she immediately handed over to the appeal to build a new hospice for children in Worcester.

Jenny, who lives in Great Rissington, bought her winning Acorns Gloucestershire lottery tickets from the booth outside the Co-op in Bourton.

"I've never considered myself to be lucky in the sense of winning things, so couldn't believe it when I won the Acorns lottery, not just once but twice," she said.

Acorns lottery manager Peggy Gedling said: "We're over the moon with this donation from Mrs Wells. It really is most generous of her to donate her winnings to Acorns and her generosity is much appreciated."

The state-of-the-art facility is under construction in Worcester and will provide specialist care and support for 250 youngsters from Gloucestershire, Herefordshire and Worcestershire. Acorns also has a community team working in Gloucestershire.

"Every player who signs up or buys a ticket is contributing vital funds to ensure that local children who are not expected to reach adulthood get the care and support they need," said Mrs Gedling.

The new hospice is due to be completed in December this year and will open early in 2005.
