Spirited rendition of a classic

NOEL Coward's comedy Blithe Spirit is at Malvern Theatres next month staring Penelope Keith.

Author Charles Condomine and his second wife Ruth hold a sance in order for Charles to learn the tricks of the trade as he researches his new novel. Expecting little more than after-dinner entertainment, the couple's lives are turned upside down when eccentric medium Madam Arcarti inadvertently conjures up the ghost of Charles's first wife, who begins a spirited campaign to get her husband back.

The 20th century classic was Coward's own favourite play and was the longest-running comedy in British theatre for three decades. The popular star of stage and TV, Penelope Keith, plays Madame Arcati, one of the theatre's great comic roles. Ruth Condomine is played by Joanna Riding, a leading stage actress and twice winner of an Olivier Award.

Blithe Spirit runs from Monday, September 6 to Saturday, September 11. Box office 01684 892277.
