Retirement homes given the go-ahead

COUNCILLORS have given the go-ahead for the conversion of former hotel and conference centre into 13 two-bedroomed units for retired people.

Members of Cotswold District Council planning committee approved the application by Lockend Estates to turn Mickleton House in the Mickleton High Street into apartments subject to an agreement on affordable housing and alterations to the layout of the car park.

Under the council's policy two of the 13 apartments should be earmarked for affordable housing.

The Victorian house had at one time been owned by religious sect Emissaries of Divine Light.

Villager Bridget Maslin, representing 11 other objectors, told a previous planning committee meeting that the proposed development was "too intense".
