Council seeks a new clerk

MORETON Town Council is looking for a new clerk following the resignation of Lesley Gee.

Mrs Gee, who was widowed in March, is due to leave the job in November.

She told the Journal this week that she had made the decision for a number of reasons, including the pressure of squeezing the amount of work needed into a three-day week.

"I don't find it easy to do 25 hours over three days. I find that quite tiring," said Mrs Gee.

On of the major reasons for her decision is to carry on the work of her late husband Brian, who ran the North Cotswold Young Cricketers' Club, based at Blockley, for 12 years.

The club, which currently has 80 members, trains youngsters aged from seven to 16 before they move on to other local and district sides.

Mrs Gee, who became clerk in March last year, said she had enjoyed the job but felt it had got tougher.

"I think it's a challenging job that will become more of a challenge," she said. "There is much more legislation we need to know and be trained for."

Town council chairman Dick Carroll said he understood Mrs Gee's reasons for stepping down.

"She feels it's time to move on and enjoy her life. We will certainly miss her as she is an excellent clerk," said coun Carroll.

Anyone interested in the job can contact the clerk's office on 01608 651448.
