Alex is bowled over by pink campaign

GLOUCESTERSHIRE cricketer Alex Gidman is feeling in the pink after launching Cancer Research UK's Making Strides for Breast Cancer campaign in Winchcombe on Monday.

Alex, who is famous for making strides between the wickets, teamed up with breast cancer survivor Rachael Hopkins to urge to people from Gloucestershire to "Think Pink" during the campaign, which runs until the end of October.

Rachael, 42, a hairdresser from Cheltenham who is offering to donate £10 to the campaign for every customer who has their hair dyed pink during October, said: "Everyone knows someone who been touched by this disease, so we must all pull together to do something about it."

Local Cancer Research UK Community fundraisers Sophie James and Maria Parker said: "We want to find people throughout Gloucestershire who are prepared to have fun and 'Think Pink'."

"Turn your workplace pink, hold a pink raffle, or serve pink food, hold a pink exercise class at your local gym, or a pink collection at your local pub, there are so many different things you can do," said Sophie.

Alternatively people can register for one of the Cancer Research UK Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 10km walks, one of which is being held at the Westonbirt Arboretum, near Cirencester, on Sunday, October 10 and another at Sudeley Castle on Sunday, October 24.

The registration fee for each walk is £6 per adult and £3 for children and people can register online from Monday at www.cancerresearch.org/makingstrides or call the local office on 08701 60 20 40. Anyone planning to hold a "Think Pink" event should also call the local office number.
