MICKLETON SOCIETY: The annual garden party was held at Field House by permission of Mrs Pam Cross. It was also Pam who co-ordinated the other ladies of the committee to provide excellent food for the finger buffet supper. Sandra Barlow, Sheila Hilton and Janet Edwards were thanked for their work.

Paul Johnson, Ian Hilton and Mike Barlow ran the bar. The raffle, which consisted of prizes donated by members, was organised by Tony and Pam Overton who raised £128 for society funds. The Rev Alan Davies acted as MC in drawing the numbers and conducting the raffle.

A sprinkling of light rain forced everyone indoors for desserts but this did not affect the overall success and atmosphere of a the evening.

The chairman, Brian Wall, reminded members that this was the eighth year since the garden party was introduced in 1997 at The Old Vicarage. On that occasion it was held to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the founding of the society. It has been a continued success ever since. The chairman presented Mrs Cross with a gift token in thanking her for all the hard work. Tony Overton took the opportunity of extending an invitation to next year's event, which will take place at Mickleton Manor.

The first meeting of the new season will be on October 5 at King George's Hall when members will learn from Maurice Heritage about the joys of moving all the precious objects and the problems and difficulties in refurbishing Snowshill Manor, which has still not yet re-opened to the public. New members are welcome; the annual fee is £3. For details contact Brian Wall on 01386 438279 or Brian Crangle on 01386 430075.
