Potters take up cues for new term

THIS weekend sees the start of the 2004-2005 Tewkesbury Sports Pool League season.

The league has now been running 24 years and it has sides currently competing not only at a local level but also at county inter-league standard, playing other towns or cities, and at annual regional tournaments all over the country.

The recently formed committee welcomes numerous new players and three new sides this year in the form of the Cowboys, The Bell Inn and The Yuds.

The expanded 14-strong entry means the league season will run into June next year with a mid-season break around December which as normal will feature the early rounds of the knockout competitions.

Defending champions and eight-times league winners, Nomads, will be hoping to protect their proud record but it promises to be a highly competitive season with Alpina Bush Cutter's attempting to win their first ever team title.

They will not provide the only opposition as last year's cup winners Hayward's Army will be hoping to improve on their league position last season as will Formula 1 who have always been in the top three or four and been a match for most sides.

Similarly, last year's newcomers NFC will also hope to build on their fine performances and challenge for honours especially after proving their quality when winning the Consolation Cup.

Other teams including Exiles and Too Pott will also be hoping that, with some of their younger players improving and gaining experience last year, they will be able to record a successful series of results.

Others, including Renegades, Wheat-pieces, Lost the Pot and Avon Dynamos, will also all be out to try and make an impression.
