Raceway ready for busy weekend

THERE'S going to be a lot of explosive nitro around at Stratford-Upon-Avon's Shakespeare County Raceway prepares for this weekend's three-day speed fest.

Headlining the Allstar Nati-onals will be the penultimate round of the British Nitro Funny Car Championships with multiple champion John Spuffard and title holder to be Gordon Smith already lined up to go head-to-head in their 300mph nitro coupes.

The Nationals also feature the British Drag Racing Champ-ionship for 3000hp Dragsters and Funny Cars with veteran Doug Ripley hoping to maintain his championship lead in his Dodge Avenger Funny Car against stiff competition from multiple champion Rob Turner and Lindsay Deuchar, both competing in five-second dragsters.

And, for bike fans, Steve Woollatt and Steve Carey will be battling it out on board their 1000 hp 200 mph cycles in the Top Fuel Drag Bike Cham-pionship.

Crowd favourite Roger Goring will be putting in demonstration passes in his Pontiac bodied Jet Funny Car.

The event also has rounds for the Sportsman National Car and Bike Championships, Street Eliminator, Wild Bunch, Out-law Anglias Junior Dragsters and Drag Bikes and Supertwins. There's even a class for rapid Volkswagens!

Admission to the Allstar Nationals is £15 (Saturday) and £20 (Sunday/Monday) or £40for a weekend pass. Accompanied under 16s are admitted free.
