Slow-down success

RESIDENTS' efforts to get motorists to slow down when driving through their village are starting to get results.

A number of motorists are facing prosecution after being caught by mobile speed cameras driving over the 30mph speed limit along the B4035 through Brailes.

It follows the formation last year of the Brailes Speed Reduction Committee by Brailes Parish Council.

Although Warwickshire County Council has said the village has little chance of having electronic speed restriction signs installed due to insufficient accidents or fatalities, the council has agreed to start a B road survey in the future.

The committee also persuaded Warwickshire Police Road Safety Unit to install temporary pneumatic traffic counting tubes, which demonstrated a significant speeding problem that led to the village being designated a "site of concern".

Since then, the mobile speed camera has visited the village and the committee has been assured that the visits will continue.

As part of the committee's plans to educate the motorists, local school children have helped produce A3 posters, reminding motorists of the 30mph limit.
