Sports toppled as Oak start season in style

FOUR of the Birdseye Sports Evesham Sunday League's newcomers made winning starts on the opening day of the new season.

Royal Oak took top honours hitting nine past Bengeworth Sports with Davies (4) and Crawford (3) doing the damage.

A Chris Malin double, meanwhile, gave George victory over Eckington, Pinvin United won on their return to the league with goals from Waters (2), Smith and Izod against Riverside, while Lenches Lions overcame Bell United thanks to goals from Paul, Whites and Cotterill.

A Darren Attwood double helped Cidermill to a five-goal victory at Gate Inn.

Bretforton Old Boys, packed with ex VIC players, got off to a winning start in Division Three as goals from Gregory, Beddoes, Jones and Lindley helped defeat Norgren.

First half goals from Gwillam and Allen saw Crowle overcome Ashton and a Graham Hay double helped promoted Wickhamford to victory at Pebworth.

Golden Cross sent a strong message out to the rest of Division Two after a seven-goal spree at Mountinneers. Sibanda (3), Hannah, Onens, Sivich and Duke were on target for the winners.

Scott Sears scored twice as Oddfellows Arms won at Bredon and a Jon Fryer double helped Peopleton edge past Shipston Excelsior.

Lee Barton struck twice to give Defford and Besford an interval lead in the local derby against Lower Moor but the home side hit back through Bate, Haines and Cotton to take the points.

A superb hat-trick from Matthew Staley gave Red Horse a winning return n the top flight at the expense of Upton Snodsbury.

Champions Moreton Wanderers needed a strong second half performance to overcome Ambassador but strikes from Mills (2), Jeffs, Shurmer and Payne proved sufficient.

Evesham WMC hit five past Willersey with Lewis scoring twice, while Offenham Rovers, 3-0 up at half-time, held off a strong fightback from Mickleton to grab a 3-2 triumph.
