THE time's around 1964... the hems are high and the fringes low, and Saturday night means the Club-A-Go-Go!
The girls go to preen and be seen and the boys act tough and strut their stuff, all under the watchful eye of their genial host, ageing rocker Eric 'Rubber Legs' De Vene.
To the backing of live music the evening consists of dancing, drinking and trying to pull a member of the opposite sex. And as all of us know, such nights never run smoothly...
A Slice of Saturday Night, which opens on Saturday, September 18 at the Playhouse Theatre in Cheltenham, is a brilliantly crafted musical by the Heather Brothers, which celebrates the eternal embarrassment of our teenage years.
The non-stop musical score is packed with numbers which so closely resemble their Sixties originals (House of the Rising Sun and I Got You Babe to name just two) that audience members will need to take their books of hit singles along with them.
Added to that, its clever, self-mocking charm will make it hard to come away feeling anything other than thoroughly entertained!
The show is being directed by Ian MacKenzie for Cheltenham Little Theatre, with choreography by Tra Kennedy and featuring a talented cast which mixes Playhouse regulars and fresh, young talent.
It runs from Saturday, September 18 to the following Saturday. Box office 01242 522852. The show includes scenes that some people might deem inappropriate for children.
