The chaos theory in practice

I'm sure that I am not alone in being utterly incensed and outraged by the chaos to which Evesham was subjected last week.

I refer to the unbelievable gridlock caused by "road works" on the Cheltenham Road.

In fact they were "pavement works"!

At one stage the queue of stationary traffic stretched through the town, up and down Greenhill, over two roundabouts and actually onto the by-pass!

Now, I have one or two questions to which I would dearly love the answers to.

1.Why were traffic lights necessary, when a coned footpath would surely have met the all pervading "health and safety" requirements? 2. Why were the lights set for such a short duration in the Cheltenham direction, thus ensuring that a tiny number of vehicles got over the bridge each time?

3. Did anybody ever check the flow of traffic to see if anything could be done to improve things?

4. Why, oh why was this work scheduled to coincide with the closure of the Old Worcester Road?

Quite simply the town was out of control. This must never be allowed to happen again.
