Chance for home rule

AFTER successive wins on the road, Evesham United have a double dose of home advantage to try to improve their poor form in Division One West at Common Road, writes Mervyn Collins.

The Robins have lost two of their opening three Southern League home games but matches against Clevedon on Saturday and Thame United next Tuesday night give Dave Busst's men the chance to repay the home faithful while also improving the club's third place position in the table.

Manager Busst isn't concerned about his side's failure on home soil but again admitted worries about the failure to take chances.

"At this level it doesn't matter whether you play home or away. We've certainly not developed a complex with playing at home but the two games do give us a chance to improve our position and give the fans something to cheer," the Common Road chief declared.

Busst was delighted with last weekend's victory in the FA Cup on an afternoon when he felt that life should have been far more comfortable.

"We've missed three one on ones, scored two goals and then they've come at us late on and made it slightly uncomfortable."

The United boss expects to add Stuart Hamilton to his squad for this weekend, while he is also looking to get fit again Marc Burrow and Tim Clarke games elsewhere.

An almost full strength squad therefore is at his disposal for a spell of three home games in seven days concluding with an attractive home date with Weston-super-Mare in the second qualifying round of the FA Cup on Saturday, October 2.
