Kingston 4, Moreton Rgrs U-13 1
A COUPLE of excellent friendly results meant expectations were high for the opening league game against newly promoted opponents.
However, Rangers quickly found themselves two goals adrift and staring defeat n the face.
Chances were still being created and, when Lee Brooks timed his run to perfection to nod home a corner, it looked like Moreton were back in the ascendancy.
More chances were wasted as Rangers sought to get on terms and matters got worse when a missed penalty was followed by an own goal and Kingston were in an unassailable position at 4-1 in front.
On another day, Rangers could quite easily have emerged victorious but it wasn't to be and already the losers are playing catch up on the teams at the top of the table.
Moreton Rgrs U-12 5,
Banbury Tn Yth 5
THIS was the first game of the new campaign for the Moreton boys and what a game it turned out to be.
Moreton started really well and it was only a matter of time before they scored when Matty Magee picked the ball up, ran at the defence and slotted the ball into the bottom corner.
Rangers were made to rue a series of missed chances when Banbury hit back with three goals in 15 minutes but they grabbed one back before the visitors scored on the stroke of half-time to lead 4-2.
The second half was all Moreton who really showed their fighting spirit and made chance after chance.
It was only a matter of time before they scored again and Harry Bates made no mistake after some excellent midfield play between Zac Fagg, Gary Luker, Josh Kyte and Tim Firth.
Bates then hit another goal to complete his hat-trick to bring the scores level and it was still all Moreton.
When Banbury did attack the impressive Kyle Ellery snuffed them out with help from David Evans, James Hicks and Robbie Shurmer.
Magee pounced on an excellent through ball late on to slot the ball home and put Moreton deservedly in the lead. Joy soon turned to despair when Banbury forced a corner and, unluckily for Moreton, the ball bounced off one of their own players and into the net with only 30 seconds left on the clock.
Worcester Wizards 0,
Evesham Utd Robins U-9 3
ROBINS started the season with a convincing victory on the road.
United took control in the first half when Sol Sanchez had two shots saved and Jordan Izod was unlucky with a shot that flew narrowly wide.
The pressure finally told when player of the match Liam Tustin broke the deadlock.
Jack Davis made it 2-0 before half-time from 20 yards with a lob over the keeper.
The second half continued in the same vein but Wizards were stubborn in defence and didn't concede again until two minutes from time when Oliver Banfield scored the third from a cross from the right.
Evesham Utd U-12 8,
Churchdown Panthers 3
EVESHAM fell behind to a early goal but soon equalised through Michael Savidge.
Two goals from Karl Myers and a Ciaran Gilbert strike then put United 4-1 ahead before the Panthers pulled one back before half-time.
The visitors started stronger after the break and cut the deficit to just one goal but Dean Lee grabbed a couple of well-taken goals to restore Evesham's advantage.
Olly Davies then banged in a seventh before Ciaran Gilbert's header finished off the scoring.
Evesham Utd Robins U-8 9,
Littleton Jnrs 0
A SOLID team display helped the Robins to a first league win of the season.
Goalkeeper Nick Clifford was rarely troubled on a day when Dan Chapman, Leon Napper, Matthew Abbott and Charlie Smith all scored twice with Liam Williamson completing the rout.
Evesham Utd U-11 6,
Gotherington Jnrs 0
A FINE all-round team display saw Evesham overcome skilful opponents who competed well throughout the first half.
Henry Woods shot Evesham's best chance over the top, while at the other end the defence had to work hard to thwart the visitors with Bryn Tomes, James Coldrick and Tom Evans all in fine form.
The second half opened with James Bearcroft firing home after Woods set him free and Elliot Grady then ran on to a Ford through ball to make it 3-0.
Wood scored after a Scott Andrew clearance eluded a defender and he completed his brace from Brown's pass.
Grady completed the scoring after Tomes sent him free to fire past the goalkeeper.
Peopleton U-11 6, Broadway 1
AFTER an opening day victory at Ilmington, Peopleton recorded a second successive victory.
After an even opening, a Joe Fowles pass was superbly controlled and finished by George Hodgetts.
Poor defensive play then saw Broadway equalise before Peopleton gradually imposed themselves on the game and were rewarded when fine inter-play between Fowles, Hodgetts and Matthew Hancock leading to a quickfire hat-trick from player of the match David Maughan.
Fowles added a fifth to make it 5-1 at half-time but, despite having the majority of the second half possession, Peopleton only had a fine finish by Stephen Nedic to show for their efforts.
Bredon Colts Panthers 1,
Evesham Utd Jnrs U-10 3
A POOR pitch hampered both sides but it didn't prevent United taking a 2-0 lead.
Dan Lamb tucked away a penalty and Harry Lowe then doubled the lead. It was 3-0 when Gareth Dee found the net and, with Alex Roberts in outstanding form, Bredon's only reply was a late penalty.
