Ironing bread and folding cucumber were just two of the tricks of the trade learned by members at their August meeting. Jean Harper, speaker for the evening, displayed the art of preparing starters and sandwiches. She adeptly produced, before an attentive audience, a grapefruit and ginger starter, sardine and lemon pate, green grapes stuffed with cream cheese and a Waldorf salad to mention only a few. Angela McKenzie, on behalf of the members, thanked her warmly.

At the business meeting which followed, president June Barke and secretary Brenda Fletcher advised the meeting of invitations received from Pershore WI to the group meeting to be held on Monday, September 27. Mention also was made of the evening meeting of Hill and Moor WI on Monday, September 6 when the speaker's subject was Through the Canadian Rockies. On September 8, Stephen Bruce will be the speaker at Defford WI and his subject would be Buying and Selling at Auction.

Tickets were available for the Harvest Supper to be held in the village hall on September 19 at 7.45pm, all proceeds to the church. The Christmas dinner is to be held also at the village hall on December 9.
