    IT'S far from plain sailing running a non-league football club so Evesham Marina's decision to sign a three-year sponsorship deal with Evesham United should help keep the club afloat for the immediate future. read more

  • Willersey

    THE Mini Show on September 13 was a great success. There was Jam and Jerusalem, but a great deal more beside. Each table demonstrated cooking skills, embroidery, photography, things to do with odd shaped vegetables (also humorous ways of making ordinary vegetables odd shaped), flower arranging and of course jam! There were 81 entries in the show, but the overall winner was the youngest member, with 30 points. Visitors from Broadway were welcomed to the meeting and were later joined by husbands. At the business part of the evening which took place before the show, members attention was drawn to the following; autumn council meeting in Stroud on Saturday, September 25; book group at Christen Mares at 3pm, on Tuesday, September 28. The book will be The Other Boleyn Girl; Christmas Concert on December 7; Group rally in Chipping Campden on March 13; The Magic Flute to be performed in Cardiff on May 22. Members were asked to begin collecting items for Operation Christmas Child. Leaflets and lists of suitable gifts were circulated, and invitations to help with sorting etc, given. read more

    MEMBERS were pleased to welcome two visitors to the September meeting. The speaker was Ken Gilks with an amusing selection of his Odd Odes. read more

  • Birlingham WI

    Ironing bread and folding cucumber were just two of the tricks of the trade learned by members at their August meeting. Jean Harper, speaker for the evening, displayed the art of preparing starters and sandwiches. She adeptly produced, before an attentive audience, a grapefruit and ginger starter, sardine and lemon pate, green grapes stuffed with cream cheese and a Waldorf salad to mention only a few. Angela McKenzie, on behalf of the members, thanked her warmly. read more

    COTSWOLD people have been reassured that changes to out-of-hours GP services will not hit their quality of care. read more

  • Aston Somerville and Wormington WI

    AT the September meeting, after a few minutes of Nicholas Clark's talk Overland to the Okavango there was a power cut. President Linda Ellis, struggled with the aid of torches to hold the business section, but just as it was decided to close the meeting the power was restored. Mr Clark resumed his talk illustrated with slides and photographs taken by his wife. read more

    WINCHCOMBE School has officially launched its specialist status which comes with a £150,000 windfall to help create a centre of excellence in science. read more

  • Ashton-under-Hill WI

    IN the absence of president Christine Powell members were welcomed by vice-president Mollie Groom. Several forthcoming events were discussed including a visit to the garden at Highgrove and a BBC Gardeners Question Time programme which will be recorded in October. Mrs Groom read a letter from the president thanking members for the shrub she had received to mark her Ruby Wedding. Birthday buttonholes this month were presented to Doreen Cope, Angela Lewis and Margaret Whatcott. read more
