A COTSWOLD security guard is back at work after taking a double beating from two masked thieves.
David Baker, aged 59, from Moreton, said that although he was still sore from the attack on New Year's Day, the worst injury had been to his pride.
He said he was sorry that despite his efforts the thieves made off with two laptop computers worth £3,000 from Oaks Underwriters.
Mr Baker was on duty at the Cotswold Business Village on London Road, Moreton, when he noticed a car pull into the site before an alarm was activated at about 7pm.
"I walked across but I thought it would be a member of staff at the company. But when I got to the building I saw this chap wearing a ski mask so I knew he didn't work there.
"I walked round the car to get the registration number when suddenly he came out and knocked me down with a kick to the chest and gave me a kicking while I was down.
"Then he jumped into the car and I grabbed a piece of paving slab that they had used to smash into the building and threw it at the car, hoping to smash the windscreen.
"Instead it hit him just as another person came out of the building, who I didn't realise was there, so I ended up taking another kicking."
Following the incident Mr Baker, who employs several other people in his security business, was taken to Moreton Hospital by police and returned to duty after being treated for his injuries.
"I'm still a bit sore but my pride is hurt more than anything because I feel as though I've let people down," he said.
Police are appealing for information about the theft and can be contacted on 0845 0901234.
