Christmas spending got off to a slow start in Tewkesbury, but came up to expectations in the end, according to local traders.
Julie Slynn of 24U men's outfitters said: "It was nothing like the summer with all tourists coming round, but it was certainly busier than last year - although a lot of traders say it was quiet, so it could be because of our move to a bigger shop."
Ian Nichols of Allison's Books also had a good year -"About the same as last year, but with a lot of retailers across the country having a rough time I am happy with that," he said.
Elaine Hancox of The China Tree said that the town seemed quieter overall, and things got off to a very quiet start - however it got much busier nearer Christmas and they had a really busy Christmas Eve.
"It's not just Tewkesbury, places like Marks and Spencer and other big companies all started their sales before Christmas and they do not do that if they are doing well," she said.
Lisa Thompson of The Card Rack said that they were definitely busier than last year, with steady trade throughout the weeks before Christmas.
Travel agents Courtney World were also busy, helping people get away for some Christmas sunshine. Spokesman Kate Gunter said: "We had people going all over the world, but Mauritius was the most popular destination."
