Sophie roars to win

A NINE-HOUR journey from Scotland proved far more arduous than the six-kilometre cross-country race that saw Sophie Williams cross the line in first place.

The Bath University student from Honeybourne (pictured) travelled to Malvern for the Worcestershire Championships and ran out an easy winner in the Over-20s category.

The 21-year-old, who is studying for a Sports Science degree, crossed the finish line more than two minutes ahead of her closest challenger when clocking a superb time of 24 minutes dead for the distance.

Sophie, who helped the University of Canada to national success last year, has been on work experience at Stirling University during a year off her studies but the trek down from the Borders, via the storms in Carlisle, certainly didn't disrupt her preparations for county honours.
