A BOURTON man has admitted hitting another man in the face with a bottle - causing injuries that needed 42 stitches - after seeing him arguing with his son.
At Gloucester Crown Court on Tuesday, Russell Gainford, 46, of Park Farm - who was celebrating his stag night at the time of the offence - pleaded guilty to unlawfully and maliciously wounding Jason Roger on June 5 last year.
Robert Duval, prosecuting, said: "This was a single blow delivered by an intact glass in what was an unpremeditated attack by a man who had been drinking since 3pm.
"By his own admission such was the quantity of alcohol that he had consumed that when interviewed by police he could remember little of the event."
Nigel Daly, defending Gainford, said: "This was not a Friday or Saturday night out drinking but the celebration of his forthcoming wedding."
Mr Daly requested a pre-sentence report on the basis that his client was of previous good character and was the managing director of his own business.
Recorder Robert Meeke QC said: "The Crown have accepted your plea. I want to make it very clear to you that smashing a glass in a man's face is something that usually attracts a prison sentence.
"The granting of bail is not any indication of what may come."
Gainford was released on unconditional bail and will be sentenced on February 18.
