On a high at home

Bourton Rvrs 2,

Shortwood Utd Res 0

BOURTON consolidated their top five position after registering a tenth league success of the season.

Goals either side of the interval by Mark Payne and Duncan Habbitts gave them a deserved victory against a Nailsworth side that finished the game with their eldest performer being just 23!

Bourton were quickest out of the blocks and won a series of corners but the closest they came to scoring was when skipper Stuart Hug-hes lashed a volley that was deflected narrowly wide.

They had to wait until the half-hour mark for the breakthrough when Hughes turned and played Tom Arkell into space and his cross was bundled in by Payne under challenge from defender.

The game was made safe midway through the second period with Hughes again involved.

Matthew Winter created room for himself on the right before pulling the ball back to Hughes, whose low drive crashed into the heels of Chris Mills before falling at the feet of Habbitts who sidefooted in.

Winter also came close with a snapshot that flew just over on an afternoon when Rovers continued their impressive form on home soil.
