A CLUB for elderly people, threatened recently with closure due to falling attendance, still needs more members to help it thrive.
The Wednesday Day Centre at Market Close sheltered housing complex once had 20 members but recently the number had fallen to less than ten.
Centre co-ordinator Jenny Dines said that although attendance was now up to 13 people, new members were needed to make sure a good range of activities could be offered.
"If anyone is feeling lonely at home they don't have to sit there day after day," she said.
"They can come for one good day a week and enjoy some good company and some warmth."
The future of the club had also been called into question by a shortage of volunteers, a situation that was resolved when five new recruits stepped forward earlier this year.
The club, founded in 1978, charges a £3.20 enrolment fee and can arrange transport to meetings, which are from 10am-2pm every Wednesday.
