Young 999-ers help tsunami appeal

SHIPSTON Young Fire Fighters raised £700 for the tsunami disaster appeal by pushing a bed from Stratford back to their home town.

The proceeds from their three hours of exertion will be used to sponsor a school in a devastated area of Sri Lanka.

The youngsters are also planning a car washing day to add to their total.

The group's treasurer, Maria Smith, said the youngsters had been determined to help the stricken communities of South East Asia. "They were as horrified as everyone else at the devastation caused by the tsunami tragedy and decided they wanted to do something to help. Several ideas were suggested and they decided a bed push was a way they could all be involved."

The Young Fire Fighters meet every Thursday between 7-9pm at Shipston Fire Station and new members are always welcome.
