Parade to honour regiment's Freedom of the district award

PARADES and church services will take place across the Cotswolds next week to mark the presentation of the Freedom of the district to 29 Regiment Logistic Corps.

On Friday, March 11, the regiment, which is based at the Duke of Gloucester Barracks in South Cerney, will march through Chipping Campden to celebrate the honour, accompanied by its band and a colour party carrying flags, rifles and bayonets.

Following the parade at 9.30am a church service will be held at St James' Church. Similar events are planed for later in the same day at Northleach and Tetbury.

Chairman of Cotswold District Council Sue Jepson said: "I'm delighted to be part of the granting of this Freedom to 29 Regiment, which recognises its close links with the area and its long and distinguished history in delivering unique support services to their UK military colleagues worldwide."

"I'm looking forward to being involved in the celebrations across our district and hope many members of the public will come along to see the parades and join the church services to show their support for the regiment."

The Commanding Officer of 29 Regiment, Lieutenant Colonel Sean English, said: "The Regiment is absolutely delighted to be granted the honour of this prestigious event. Despite many of the regimental personnel being deployed on operations to Iraq, Afghanistan and Bosnia, throughout the year, all soldiers take great pride in integrating with the community and contributing to fund-raising and charity events in the district. The event will undoubtedly be considered a very significant day in the Regimental Calendar."

Residents are invited to attend the church service which starts at 11am in Campden.
