Pupils get a taste of hotel work

STUDENTS from Shipston High School will join other Year 10 youngsters from Kineton and Stratford High Schools to experience a day in the life of a country house hotel

The scheme to encourage you people to consider the hospitality industry and its broad range of career opportunities takes place at the Ettington Park Hotel.

The day's events next Monday will begin with a theory session and a group exercise, such as designing a menu.

After lunch the students will be placed into three groups. In the kitchen they will prepare a meal alongside the hotel's head chef, Ben Davies, floristry where they will learn how to crate floral displays for events and in food and beverages they will gain an insight into running a private dining restaurant from designing menus and wine lists to decorating rooms and organising staff.

The students will then put their skills to the test in the evening when they will serve dinner to guests under the watchful eye of the skilled hotel team.

Julia Hands, chief executive of Hand Picked Hotels, said: "We are delighted to give students an insight into the rewarding careers available in the hospitality industry. It is an exciting business sector with excellent opportunities for career advancement. We want to encourage more people to consider the industry as a career option."
