Harrods was not on the agenda

MIGHT I make comment on Ms Gregory's letter regarding Port Street and her reference therein to a tacky Pound Shop? The lady must suffer from convenient amnesia perhaps - its former appearance for over ten years as a decaying Kwiksave relic should be recalled and one of the successful outcomes of the Evesham Markets Town Partnership Port Street regeneration study is the present store. Be realistic - Bengeworth was never in Mr Fayed's sights so we were never going to have a Harrods here.

What we have got is a spacious outlet with a friendly staff and a range of goods and bargains unequalled under one roof in Evesham. For those who have not yet visited it, it is worth crossing the Workman Bridge so to do.

MR A W LYON, Market Town panel member and Evesham Town Councillor, Lindsey Avenue, Evesham.
