Nine from nine would be just fine

NINE league games remain after this weekend's Southern League Division One West clash at Yate Town and Evesham United will be going flat out to win them all!

That appealing statistic would guarantee the championship for Dave Busst's men but nothing is that simple and there are bound to be plenty of twists and turns during the next couple of months.

Any number of teams could still claim a top two automatic promotion berth or top six play-off place but the title looks set for a battle royal between the Robins, Mangotsfield, Yate, Clevedon, Bromsgrove and Ashford Town.

Nothing can be taken for granted and, with all the top sides having to play each other, the results of those games could have a real bearing in the destiny of the inaugural divisional title.

United have also to face Saturday's championship rivals at Common Road while the Gloucestershire outfit also have a double-header against Mangotsfield.

Brackley's 2-0 win at Bromsgrove last Saturday leaves Busst's men with a 12-point buffer over the seventh-placed Northamptonshire side and that surely should be sufficient to guarantee at least an extension to the league campaign and a play-off tie on Monday, May 2.
