Spartak play catch-up as top two sit it out

THE big clash in Division One of the Stratford Alliance was called off on Saturday, giving Stratford Spartak the chance to make up a little lost ground.

After their defeat to leaders Ilmington the previous week, Spartak picked up the points on their visit to Badsey United with a 2-1 win while the top two, ILmington and Halfords, had to sit it out.

Kevin Ward and Greg Castle scored for Spartak with United replying through Martin Schembri.

Henley Reserves are a team to watch at the moment. Following their 4-4 draw the previous week with Division Two leaders Cubbington, they rattled in five on their visit to FISSC Reserves. Carl Mackenzie hit four and Adam Smith one, with FISSC's solitary reply coming from Rich Foreman.

Shipston's Sam Bishop was another four-goal man in a 7-2 hammering of struggling Tysoe, for whom Nick Smith scored a pair. Simon Plank, Andy Righton and Kevin Kelly were also on target for Shipston.

In the only other Herald Division match, Badsey United Reserves beat Bodrum 3-2 with goals from Paul Pinkney, Shaun Carter and Dean Williams. Bodrum's reply came from Ali Cil and Marian Kudlek.

Cubbington bounced back from their league disappointment to ease through their RM Smith Cup tie 4-2 against Long Compton.

Phil McGarvey grabbed two and Phil Hollingsworth and Joe Beck one each; the Compton replies coming from Terry Santry and Shaun Stanley.
