Tewkesbury Festival lines up tasty treats

A TASTY experience is being lined up for Tewkesbury in May when the Abbey will be the venue for the Tewkesbury Festival of Food and Drink.

Highlights of the Friday and Saturday, May 6 and 7, event include a food hall with over 50 regional producers exhibiting, cooking demonstrations with local chefs, a competitions hall featuring a Young Chefs' competition and the chance to create the new Tewkesbury Sandwich.

The Abbey will also feature traditional foods from medieval times and visitors will be able to taste and buy traditional foods and see how the monks would have lived, as well as a tour round the herb gardens.

The Tewkesbury Food and Drink Trail will take visitors round the town to taste more of the mouth-watering food on offer and they may even discover the special Tewkesbury Pudding.

Local schools will be taking part in activities on the Friday, ranging from healthy eating workshops to competitions.

Anna Sanders, one of the organisers, said: "The event is aimed at encouraging local people and businesses to use regional food and drink of excellent quality and variety."

The festival will be open from 11am to 4.30pm on the Friday and 10am to 5pm on the Saturday. Admission is free.
