AWARD-winning choreographer Henri Oguike is making a first visit to Malvern with his company of eleven dancers on Tuesday.
He brings a programme of four pieces for his spring 2005 tour, including his newly reworked and expanded Seen of Angels piece, inspired by Handel's Messiah and drawn from other Baroque sources.
Another new work, Second Signal, is being shown for the first time this tour. It is set to the primal rhythms of Japanese Taiko drums.
The duet Shot Flow was created in collaboration with Portuguese composer Pedro Carneiro and lighting designer Guy Hoare. And White Space is a full company piece, performed to Scarlatti's pieces for harpsichord.
"Henri Oguike's work packs a powerful theatrical punch with its virtuoso dancing and vivid dramatic atmosphere," said a theatre spokeswoman. "Oguike is passionate about the relationship between music and dance."
The company has been staging workshops with local schoolchildren and adults during the run-up to the performance and after the show in the Forum Theatre on Tuesday, Henri Oguike will be giving a talk about it and his work.
