Pollard pegs in for Festival

LAST Sunday saw 54 anglers vying for an invitation to this year's Shakespeare Cham-pionships at the annual Evesham Festival when a qualifier was staged at Hampton Ferry.

Competitors were greeted by a beautiful spring-like day with the river a lovely colour with just a hint of cold in the air.

The conditions produced a new record for the Hampton Ferry Fisheries when Daiwa Gordon League angler Brian Pollard brought 76lbs 13ozs to the scales from peg four, opposite the Caravan Park.

The new record-holder fished with a feeder/pole with caster over ground bait to net 19 bream a couple of which weighed 7lbs or more.

Pegged next to him on peg 44 was top angler Dave Harrell who weighed in 47lbs 9oz, all bream caught using caster/ground bait.

One below the winner on peg 40 was Tewkesbury tackle dealer Rob Danter (29.4.0), fourth was AFS W B Clarke captain Leigh Gardner (8.13.0) and fifth local tackle dealer Dave Packwood (6.9.0).
