Carp cheer as Spiers seals spot at Wychavon event

A CARP weighing 15lbs helped Jeff Spires gain an easy victory in the latest qualifier for this year's Wychavon Festival.

The Bait Box winner, fishing peg eight on the Common water, also netted two tench and skimmer bream in a winning weight of 34lbs 7ozs.

In second place was Brian Pollard, Common peg six, who brought 11lbs 10ozs to the scales to finish ahead of Rob Middleton (Shakespeare) whose roach catch off pole weighed 10lbs 11ozs.

Evesham and District Disabled AC and Partnerships

FIFTEEN members were in action for the opening match in the Bradford and Bingley Spring League.

A cold wind greeted competitors at Manor Farm's Ash Pool but it didn't deter Rita Barnett who weighed in with 9.12.0 to claim first prize.

Jerry Akerman (9.12.0) was second and Wayne Panting (4.1.0) third and the latter pair will be hoping for better fortunes when the club visits the Priory Lake at Lemington Lakes near Moreton-in-Marsh for the next match.

THE Fishery provided excellent sport considering the cold conditions and it was Chris Taylor who claimed first place to win the Last Chance Cup.

Barry Stayte won the Tom Pitcher Shield from peg five to see off the challenge of Stu Thomson and top junior Simon Pickering.

Open matches will restart at The Fishery during the Easter holidays with details available at local tackle shops.
