Derby despair for Moat men

Tewkesbury 5pts,

Chosen Hill FP 24

TEWKESBURY slipped to another defeat in Saturday's local derby.

The game was played at a frenetic pace and the visitors opened their account after ten minutes with a penalty.

The hosts then went on the attack from their own ten-metre line only to

spill the ball forward. Advantage was played and Hill's backs cut neat lines through the defence and went over for the converted score.

Shaun Everis had a ten-minute rest courtesy of the referee and the extra man soon told as the visitors exposed a gap for another converted try right on half-time.

Tewkesbury upped their workrate from the restart and, with Everis back on the field, the pack made great inroads into Chosen Hill's half.

Quick ball was fed to Jason Schofield who made space for himself. When the covering full back caught him, replacement Tom Wilkinson was in support and powered over for the try but Eddie Dawe's conversion attempt came back off an upright.

An attacking five-metre scrum, saw a back row move launched to the line. Second row Andy Davison added his bulk to the drive and crashed over only for the referee to adjudge the ball was held up.

With time running out Chosen Hill finished deep in home territory and a neat move off the line-out saw them scramble a late converted try.

A raffle was held at the club to raise funds to help Thomas Potts in his quest to play for the English Schools deaf side.

Treasurer Bram Lane had already said that whatever funds were raised, the club would match and an overwhelmed teenager was given £500 to boost his international prospects.
