Compton in a fine mess!

SHAUN Stanley bolstered Blockley's Stratford Alliance promotion push with a four-goal salvo against championship rivals Long Compton.

The Cutler Division Three hosts won an eight-goal thriller at Sparmoor to reinforce their championship credentials while handing out a severe blow to Compton's title aspirations.

Steve Cross scored the fifth for the Cotswolds side, while two from Phil Smith and one for Craig Miller weren't sufficient to aid Long Compton's cause.

At the wrong end of the table, there was more misery for Welford and Bidford Reserves, although both battled gamely only to lose by two-goal margins.

Ben Metrovich scored twice as Badsey Rangers Reserves won 3-1 at Cynder Meadow, while goals from Simon Miles and Craig Miller ended Bidford's hopes of a rare win.

Halfords Reserves also had two goals to spare when overcoming Dog and Pheasant but there was a surprise for the senior side who crashed out of the Nursing Home Cup after a 3-2 defeat at FISSC.

Ben Adshead was a second four-goal star of the afternoon as Henley made easy progress after a 6-1 win at Littleton, while the form book was upheld as Southam defeated Ilmington's second string 3-1.

Two teams with hopes of playing top flight football next season met at Studley and it was the Nags Head who emerged victorious over Alcester Lions thanks to goals from Tony Egan and Steve Haughton.

The two sides have enjoyed a successful season in Herald Division Two but they saw two of their promotion rivals do their chances of a lift in status a power of good.

Rich Craig, Darrell Betley and Mat Sheridan all scored twice as Broadway United easily overcame Bidford 7-1, while four players found the net in Cubbington's 4-1 defeat of Bodrum.

Rich Foreman banged in a hat-trick and completed a good day for FISSC as the club's second string inflicted more misery on basement outfit Tysoe United.

There were five goals at Henley where the home side's second string scored three that proved too many for Shipston who replied through Steve Hedderman and Kevin Kelly.
