Moreton

HISTORY SOCIETY: The March meeting was attended by 60 members when Alan Bull, a registered guide, gave them an illustrated preview of the Society's outing to Hereford churches in July.

The meeting was the annual meeting and officers re-elected were - chairman, Guy Stapleton; secretary, Margaret Shepard; treasurer, John Barnes; committee members, Mike Rees, David Day, Ray Poulton, Paul Webber and Jo Stanley. After hearing there had been a profit on the year of £469 it was agreed subscriptions should remain at £5.

There will be summer outings to Somerset House and St Paul's In London and a further tour of Herefordshire to include Ledbury, Much Marcle and Eastnor Castle.

The latest exhibition at the library consists of 20 photos of old Moreton inns.

The spring bulletin concludes the three-part history of Batsford Park with biographies of the Dulverton family. It also features the stone Sanctus chair in Evenlode church.

FLOWER CLUB: Carolyn Gordon Smith demonstrated five arrangements at the February meeting held in Broadwell village hall.

The next meeting will be held on March 24 at 7.30pm. The demonstrator will be Mrs Katharine Lee.

Visitors and new members are welcome.

INTEREST AND LEISURE CLUB: After completion of the business, the vice-chairman, David Cham, introduced the speaker Gary Parker of Cotswold District Council who gave an illustrated talk on Energy Efficiency. He said that if we did not lower pollution of the atmosphere more than we are doing at present it would cause serious deterioration in the climate.

Mrs Mavis McLoughlan gave a vote of thanks.
