Teenage karting brothers celebrate double triumph

KART racing Tewkesbury brothers Chris and Mat Dittmann are celebrating after they both succeeded in claiming the winter series championship titles in their individual formulae at Shenington, near Banbury at the weekend.

Chris, aged 15, achieved fastest lap in all his heats as well as in the final in which he completed the race ahead of the rest of the field by almost nine seconds. He started the day in fifth position for the championship and, having managed to bridge the gap, secured the championship by just one point.

This talented youngster is not only the 2004 champion in the Junior Rotax formula at Rissington, during 2004 he finished third in the Shenington championship and also became the 2004 Junior Rotax South West championship title-holder.

He only moved up to the senior Rotax class at the start of the 2005 season, competing against more than 50 of the country's top adult drivers.

Mat, aged 13, won all his heats and achieved fastest lap in one heat. He lost the lead in the final and finished just 1.48 seconds behind the leader. However, this was still enough to maintain the lead he had gained in the first rounds of the series and clinch the title by six points.

This equally talented youngster finished third overall in the 2004 Mini Max championship at Rissington and held the South West championship title during 2003.

Both boys are now leading the Shenington Championship and both are second in the Rissington Championship for their individual classes. They will be competing at Little Rissington Kart Circuit over the weekend of April 2 and 3 for the next round of the Rissington Championship.

Chris and Mat are actively involved in the preparation and maintenance of their own karts with help and guidance from their father Pete although they are currently seeking sponsorship to enable them to compete in other national and European Championships.
