Call to collectors to show off treasures at exhibition

COTSWOLD collectors are urged to bring out their treasures and show off their hobbies at a one-day exhibition.

The Corinium Museum in Cirencester is hoping as many people as possible sign up to share their passion for anything from ping-pong balls to telephone cards.

Museum collections manager Judy Mills said: "The Collections Showcase is an opportunity to show how interesting and varied collecting is and how rarely collections are ever alike.

"The event is a one-day version of our popular People's Shows from past years, which featured collections as diverse as teapots and Dennis The Menace memorabilia.

"We'd like to encourage collectors to get in touch and book a table - you never know, you might even inspire others to start collecting."

The event will be held on Saturday, April 16, and will also feature a wealth of objects collected during the Victorian era when exploration was a fashionable pastime of the wealthy.

The items, ranging from glass to gaming counters, were collected around the world from Egypt to the Mediterranean usually by young travellers on a Grand Tour. All the items come from the museum's own collections and many have never been on public display before.

Anyone wanting to join the one-day showcase should contact Judy Mills at the museum on 01285 655611.
