Good reception for radio station trial

VOLUNTEERS are giving a proposed community radio station in the Cotswolds a tremendous reception.

More and more people have come forward to offer their time and talents to a two-day trial of the community radio station in Winchcombe, which is due to take place on April 22 and 23.

Programme co-ordinator Rob Weaver said he is confident that the team behind the new station now has enough material pledged to put together an interesting and varied schedule for the trial.

Among the items likely to be aired are Winchcombe School students giving their impressions of their visit to the First World War battlefields, a live parliamentary debate and a series of history "sound bites" on local heritage.

The town's youth centre, led by youth leader Phil Colmer, will be focusing on musical content, which is due to range from rock and big band music, to a live gig by Bill Pullen and friends and choral music from St Peter's Church choir.

Project co-ordinator Roger Drury, who pioneered community radio in the Forest of Dean, said: "Community radio is 10 per cent radio and 90 per cent community."

Work is currently taking place on some of the technical aspects of running the radio station, including training on the use of miniaturised recording gear in the studio and outside.

"Anyone with technical expertise in recording or broadcasting would be welcome additions to the team," said Mr Weaver.
