A hat-trick for Hartwell after triumphs at table

LAST Saturday's Evesham and District Association's Finals Night at Bengeworth Church House saw Matt Hartwell regain the Bob Bryant School of Motoring Men's Singles with a 7-11, 11-7, 11-7, 9-11, 11-8 win over Doug Payne.

Earlier in the evening, both Hartwell and Payne came through their semi-final matches against Luke Moffat and Grahame Brown respectively.

Hartwell won 11-9, 5-11, 11-8, 11-8, while Payne defeated reigning champion Grahame Brown 9-11, 11-6, 11-7, 6-11, 11-6.

In the Pete Bott Skips Veteran men's singles event, Brown and Payne again locked horns with the former this time coming out on top after a 10-12, 15-13, 11-9, 11-8 success.

In the Manor Interior Carpets, Curtains and Rugs Women's Singles final, Lynda Reid retained her title with an 11-8, 8-11, 13-11, 11-6 win over Aileen Berry.

The MK Technical Services Handicap Singles title went to Alan Chung (0) after a great comeback in the fifth set. He was 7-3 down to Rachael Sellick (+2) but hit back to win 9-11, 11-9, 10-12, 11-6, 14-12.

The Schi'zo Junior Drawn Doubles went to Tristan Gretton and Craig Young who recorded a comfortable 11-6, 11-4, 11-9 victory over Andrew Taylor and Ella Parry-Reece.

In the Happy Little Sole events, the Junior Girls Singles went to Sellick after a comfortable and convincing 11-1, 11-0, 11-7 against Parry-Reece.

In by far the best match of the night, Moffat retained his Junior Boys Singles title after a hard-fought 8-11, 11-6, 4-11, 11-7, 14-12 victory over Martin Brown.

In the night's doubles action, the GLB Veteran Drawn Doubles went to Stan Owen and Keith Ferguson after an 11-7, 11-5, 12-10 win over Ken Baker and Ros Jones.

The Sunsational Vertical Tanning Centres Mixed Doubles title was retained by Hartwell and Aileen Berry who overcame Lynda Reid and Richard McGhee 11-5, 6-11, 13-11, 11-4.

The final doubles match saw the Cotswold Provisions Limited Men Doubles up for grabs and it provided a third title for Hartwell, who helped Darrell Wiltshire account for Geoff Collings and Neil Wicks 5-11, 11-5, 11-4, 11-9.
