A DEVELOPMENT company has launched an appeal to secure planning permission for a house on the site of a builders' yard.
Calarel Developments has turned to the Secretary of State for the Environment in a bid to overturn Cotswold District Council's refusal of the scheme.
Tony Jones, the council's head of planning, said the main objection was that the site was in open countryside, part of the Cotswold Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
He also said there were concerns about the safety of the site. "Insufficient information has been provided to enable the local planning authority to accurately determine the level of contamination within the application site.
"The previous commercial use of the land may have resulted in a degree of contamination that could have significant implications for any future occupants of the site as well as representing a threat to the quality of the surrounding land and adjoining water courses."
Members of the public are invited to have their say about the proposal. Written representations should be sent in triplicate to the Planning Inspectorate, Room 3/04B, Temple Quay House, 2 The Square, Bristol, BS1 6PN.
